וֶהְיֵה בְּרָכָה

“And you shall be a blessing” Bereishis 12:2

For more than 22 years, we have helped people through hard times with clothing, household goods and holiday help, always with respect for their dignity.

About the Machson

We collect money, clothing, furniture and household goods, and pass them on to people going through hard times, in a way that respects each person’s dignity. We also organize and support workshops, lectures and community organizations.

Our mission is to help people in need, mainly but not only in the Jewish community, here in Canada and abroad, and to strengthen communities along traditional values. We want to foster compassion, respect and sharing, by helping people directly and by helping them help themselves.

What we do

  • Clothing for families

Maxy’s Warehouse, Vivi’s Unique Boutique, collects gently used clothing and gives it to families in need at no charge. We ask that donated items be in excellent condition so they can be put to use right away. Clothing donations are tax-deductible. To donate, message us to arrange a drop-off.

  • Furniture and household goods

We collect furniture, household items and appliances in excellent condition and pass them on, at little or no cost, to people going through difficulties. We issue tax receipts for the fair market value of donated goods. Send us a list of what you have and we’ll arrange pickup or drop-off.

  • Holiday assistance

Before Pesach and the Yomim Tovim, we provide food, clothing, shoes and other essentials so that every family can celebrate with dignity.

  • Community support

Depending on available resources, we offer volunteer opportunities, placements for student community service, employment mentoring, and support for people with special needs.

  • Donor-advised giving

We work with donors to support programs they care about, in Canada and abroad, within our charitable guidelines. We welcome every suggestion; the charity makes the final decision on how funds are used.

Chabad Youth of Karmiel

In Karmiel, in northern Israel, we support Chabad Youth of Karmiel’s work with the students of ORT Braude College of Engineering and with at-risk youth in the Galilee periphery: economic relief, community support, Shabbos meals, classes, and a place to belong.

One student at a time

Before the High Holidays in 2023, three students committed to putting on tefillin every day and each received a pair of their own. One is the child of a victim of a rocket attack from Lebanon. Another comes from a Russian family that had little connection to Judaism. Our support helps fund the Shabbos dinners, classes and scholarships that make moments like these possible.

A student venture for people in need

In May 2020, Chabad on Campus Karmiel joined Chabad houses on campuses across Israel to challenge students to a social entrepreneurship competition, backed by 100,000 NIS. Students pitched initiatives to help the people hit hardest by Covid-19. The top three ideas each received a $1,000 grant, and the best was developed and launched. Ideas included technology training for Israel’s elderly, a furniture exchange for students, and an app connecting farmers directly with customers.

International partners

We work with community organizations abroad under written agreements, so that every dollar is used for its charitable purpose and properly documented.

Rostov, home to close to 15,000 Jews, was the site of one of the worst massacres of the Holocaust. Today the community is thriving again, with a day school, an overnight camp, a women’s club, humanitarian aid and one of Russia’s most active youth groups.
